Aptly named, Steep Hill has a one-in-seven gradient street. It forms part of the Roman route from the River Witham to Bailgate and is home to two Norman houses – the Jew’s House and Norman House. Crammed with character, visitors are surely to find something that suits them in the many independent shops and restaurants.

Steep Hill is the best street in Britain - 2011! Steep Hill in Lincoln has been named the best street in Britain by the Academy of Urbanism.

The accolade was bestowed on Lincoln’s most famous two thousand year-old street at an awards ceremony on Friday 11th November, seeing off competition from Cockburn Street in Edinburgh and Byres Road in Glasgow.

The Academy of Urbanism took on the challenge of climbing Steep Hill, which has a one in seven gradien, which forms part of the Roman route from the River Witham to Bailgate and is home to two Norman houses – the Jew’s House and Norman House.
